Bharat Electronics Limited (BEL) India, will conclude the online application process for recruitment to the posts of Engineering Assistant Trainee, Technician ‘C’ and Junior Assistants today, September 5. Eligible candidates can apply for the vacancies on the BEL official website bel-india.in.

The recruitment drive aims to fill a total of 63 vacancies for Engineering Assistant Trainee, Technician ‘C’ and Junior Assistants.

Eligibility Criteria

Age limit: A candidate should not be above the age of 28 years, as on September 1, 2023. Upper age relaxation applicable for reserved category candidates.

Educational qualification:

(i)For Engineering Assistant Trainee – Candidates should have completed three years Diploma in Engineering in the relevant discipline/subject from a recognised institution.

(ii)For Technician ‘C’ – Candidates should have completed SSLC+ITI in the relevant trade from a recognised institution and one year apprenticeship training with National Apprenticeship Certificate in the relevant trade or SSLC+3 years National Apprenticeship Certificate Course in relevant Trade.

Voting for bye-elections in seven Assembly constituencies in six states went underway at 7 am on Tuesday.

Polling is being held at the Ghosi constituency in Uttar Pradesh, Dumri in Jharkhand, Dhanpur and Boxanagar in Tripura, Bageshwar in Uttarakhand, Dhupguri in West Bengal and Puthuppally in Kerala. The results will be declared on September 8.

The bye-elections are being seen as the first electoral test for the Opposition’s INDIA alliance. At ameeting of the alliance last week, the 28 constituent parties resolved to contest the 2024 Lok Sabha elections together “as far as possible” in an attempt to take down the Bharatiya Janata Party-led government at the Centre.

The Ghosi bye-election is being held on account of the resignation of Dara Singh Chauhan, who had won the seat in 2022, from the Samajwadi Party. Chauhan is now contesting on a BJP ticket against the Samajwadi Party’s Sudhakar Singh.

The bye-poll in Dumri has been necessitated by the death of Jharkhand Mukti Morcha MLA Jagarnath Mahto, who had been representing the seat since 2004. The Jharkhand Mukti Morcha has fielded Mahto’s wife Bebi Devi, while the All Jharkhand Students Union, a partner in the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance, has nominated Yashoda Devi.

Amid the civil war, Myanmar’s military on July 31 extended by six months the state of emergency imposed in the country since the 2021 coup d’état, signalling another postponement to elections it had pledged.

This instability within Myanmar, and resurgent Chinese influence since the coup have raised serious concerns for Delhi amid India’s geopolitical competition with China. While Delhi has been calling for restoration of democracy in Myanmar, it has simultaneously made overtures to the country’s military rulers. Observers suggest that Delhi’s need to protect its own immediate goals have forced these seemingly divergent approaches it has taken.

Instability in Myanmar

The February 2021 coup reinstated direct military rule in Myanmar and scuttled the country’s decade-long semi-democratic transition. The junta had previously ruled Myanmar between 1962 and 2011. Even when pro-democracy leader Aung San Suu Kyi’s party came to power in 2015, the military retained considerable political control.

The latest coup has triggered a civil war between the Tatmadaw, or the country’s military, the National Unity Government and various ethnic armies fighting for territorial control. The National Unity Government is a government in exile, comprising lawmakers ousted in the coup. While some countries recognise the National Unity Government as Myanmar’s legitimate government, the Tatmadaw considers it a terrorist organisation.

Skipper Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill remained unbeaten as India defeated Nepal by 10 wickets in a rain-hit match to enter the Super Four stage of the Asia Cup on Monday.

Celebrations in Spain following the national team’s win at the FIFA Women’s World Cup have been marred by the behaviour of Luis Rubiales, president of the Royal Spanish Football Federation. Rubiales kissed Jenni Hermoso, one of the players, without her consent and made rude gestures in the stands while watching the match.

Despite criticism of his behaviour, Rubiales has refused to resign, defending himself in a lengthy and at times bizarre speech.

Throughout, Rubiales resorted to strategies that are commonly used by those resistant to gender equality. It was straight out of the anti-feminist playbook.

The Supreme Court on Monday adjourned till October 3 a plea filed by Communist Party of India (Marxist) leader Brinda Karat seeking a case against Bharatiya Janata Party leaders Anurag Thakur and Parvesh Verma for their alleged hate speech, reported PTI.

A Bench of Justices Abhay S Oka and Pankaj Mithal deferred the case after Additional Solicitor General SV Raju, appearing for the Delhi Police submitted a request for adjournment. The bench, however, observed that no further adjournment would be granted to the police in the case.

This was the third time the case has been adjourned at the request of the Delhi Police. Earlier, the Delhi Police had sought additional time to file a counter affidavit in response to the special leave petition. In August, their counsel had circulated a letter seeking an adjournment, according to Live Law.

Karat had approached the Supreme Court after the Delhi High Court in June last year had dismissed her petition seeking a first information report against Thakur and Verma.

The West Bengal Police Recruitment Board (WBPRB) has released the admit card of the personality test for the Sub-Inspector/ Sub-Inspectress (UB) and Sergeant in Kolkata Police 2021. Eligible candidates can download their hall tickets from the official website wbpolice.gov.in.

The personality test is scheduled to be conducted from September 11, 2023.

Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Monday said the state government regrets attacking Maratha quota protesters with batons in Jalna district last week, reported the Hindustan Times.

“Lathicharge by police was not right,” Fadnavis said. “…I am apologising on behalf of the Maharashtra government.”

Clashes had erupted between the police and those demanding reservations for the Maratha community on September 1 in Jalna. Several persons, including 40 police personnel, were injured as protestors threw stones and police used batons and teargas on them. Over 15 state transport buses were set on fire.

The violence continued on Saturday as more vehicles were allegedly torched by protesters in the district. Several other major cities in Maharashtra, including Solapur, Nanded, Chhatrapati Sambhaji Nagar, and Nagpur, have also witnessed protests in support of the reservation demand.

The police have so far arrested 40 people and registered a case against 600 persons in connection with the violence in Jalna, according to The Indian Express.

Opposition parties in Maharashtra had criticised the police action against the protesters. They also blamed Fadnavis, who also handles the home department, for the violence and demanded his resignation.

On Monday, Fadnavis said that the decision to use force against those protesting was not taken by any top official in the government, according to PTI.
