इंटरनेट डेस्क। एशिया कप 30 अगस्त से शुरू होने जा रहा है और भारतीय टीम भी इस टूर्नामेंट में हिस्सा लेने जा रही है। इस टूर्नामेंट भारतीय टीम के कप्तान रोहित शर्मा के पास एक बड़ा रिकॉर्ड अपने नाम दर्ज करने का मौका है। बता दें की रोहित शर्मा इस एशिया कप में अगर 10 छक्के लगा देते है तो वो पाकिस्तान के शाहिद अफरीदी का रिकॉर्ड तोड़ देंगे।

जानकारी के अनुसार अगर रोहित शर्मा दस छक्के लगाते है तो वह एशिया कप के इतिहास में वनडे फॉर्मेट में सबसे ज्यादा छक्के जडऩे वाले बल्लेबाज बन जाएंगे। रोहित शर्मा अभी तक एशिया कप के 22 वनडे मैचों में कुल 17 छक्के लगा चुके हैं। इससे वह टूर्नामेंट में सबसे ज्यादा छक्के लगाने वाले बल्लेबाजों की सूची में चौथे स्थान पर हैं।

सबसे ज्यादा छक्के लगाने के रिकॉर्ड की बात करे तो पाकिस्तान के शाहिद अफरीदी के नाम दर्ज है, जिन्होंने एशिया के 23 वनडे मैचों में कुल 26 छक्के लगाए है। श्रीलंका के सनथ जयसूर्या 25 मैचों में कुल 23 छक्के लगाकर लिस्ट में दूसरे स्थान पर हैं। तीसरे स्थान पर सुरेश रैना हैं, जिन्होंने 13 मैचों में कुल 18 छक्के जड़े हैं। वहीं सौरव गांगुली 13 छक्कों के साथ इस लिस्ट में पांचवें स्थान पर हैं।

UP teacher urges students to strike Muslim classmate, police vow action as video goes viral

As a horrifying video went viral on Friday of a teacher in Uttar Pradesh’s Muzaffarnagar district ordering students to slap a seven-year-old Muslim classmate, the police said they are investigating the matter.

“We will file the case after seeing the video and recording the statements of the child and his parents,” the sub-inspector at the Mansurpur police station told Scroll.

The National Commission for Protection of Child Rights has also taken cognisance of the incident and “legal action is being taken”, the organisation’s chairperson, Priyank Kanoongo, said on the social media site X.

The child studied in the lower kindergarten at Neha Public School in Khubapur village, his parents told Scroll. His father, Irshad Tyagi, a farmer, identified the teacher as Tripta Tyagi.

In the video, after one student strikes the Muslim boy who is standing in front of the class, the teacher can be heard urging other students to get up and hit him harder. Off camera, a male voice can be heard approving the action.

“When my son came home yesterday he was crying,” said the boy’s mother, Rubina. “We didn’t take it seriously. We thought that the teacher must have punished him for not doing his home work. But when we saw the video we were shocked.”

In an episode of the TV series The Good Doctor, a patient named Dawn has a miscarriage. Her husband, Todd, is shocked by this revelation. Since he had a vasectomy a decade ago, it doesn’t make sense that Dawn was pregnant. Unless she had sex with someone else, that is. As the episode unfolds, it becomes clear that Dawn cheated on Todd. Except there’s a catch. She cheated because of a neurological condition that restricted her ability to refuse or say “No” to sexual advances or inclinations, which led her to have multiple sexual encounters with different individuals.

When Todd is upset with Dawn, one of her doctors asks him if he has felt attracted to others during their relationship. He admits to this feeling, adding that he never felt compelled to act on those impulses. The doctor responds by saying that while Todd resisted acting on his temptations, Dawn succumbed to hers. In the concluding episode of our three-part series on tabla maestro Munir Khan’s 75th birth anniversary celebrations held in Mumbai in 1950, we listen to recordings of a few other exponents who were featured in the two sessions at this single-day function.

We begin with Agra gharana guru and composer Khadim Hussain Khan. He sings two compositions in the raag Maluha Kedar. The first one is set to vilambit or slow Ektaal and the second one is a tarana set to Teentaal.

The second track features Azmat Hussain Khan (vocal), an exponent of the Khurja, Jaipur-Atrauli and Agra gharanas. He sings a composition set to a medium tempo 16-matra Teentaal in the raag Darbari Kanada.

On the next track, Ramrao Parsatvar plays the rarely heard instrument called jaltarang. He plays a composition in the raag Yaman set to Teentaal, which is accelerated towards the end to incorporate the climactic jhala section.

Caught for crossing invisible ocean borders, Indian and Pakistani fishermen are languishing in jail

Had the 99 Indian fishermen incarcerated in Pakistani prisons been repatriated last month as agreed, Jagdish Mangal might still be alive.

Mangal, 35, was among the several Indian fishermen arrested by Pakistan’s Maritime Security Agency in February 2020 and detained in Malir prison, Karachi. He was a resident of Nana Vada, Gujarat.

Pakistan was supposed to repatriate 99 Indian fishermen on July 3, but never did. A month later, Mangal died on August 6 of “natural causes”, at least according to the medical certificate.

Earlier this year, another fisherman, 58-year-old Soma Baraiya who was supposed to be released with 198 other Indian fishermen in May, passed away days before his repatriation. Baraiya, who was from Kotda village in Gujarat, had been languishing in prison since 2020. After he fell ill, he was taken to a hospital where he died of lung and heart complications.

But the real tragedy is that neither Mangal nor Baraiya should have been in prison in the first place.

सीएम ने सवाल के जवाब में कहा की यह गलत धारणा है कि मैं मुख्यमंत्री बने रहना चाहता था और पार्टी प्रमुख नहीं। मैंने इसे ठुकरा दिया यह पूरी तरह गलत है। सोनिया गांधी सच जानती हैं, मैंने उन्हें सब बताया। मैं इसमें नहीं पड़ना चाहता क्योंकि अब हम सभी को एक साथ चुनाव लड़ना चाहिए।

Manipur violence: SC transfers CBI cases to Assam High Court

The Supreme Court on Friday transferred 17 violence cases related to the ethnic clashes in Manipur being probed by the Central Bureau of Investigation to Assam and asked the chief justice of the Gauhati High Court to to assign one or more judicial officers to deal with them, reported PTI.

Among the cases is the sexual assault of Kuki women who were paraded naked by a mob in the Kangpokpi district. The video of the assault was widely shared on social media on July 19.

Three women were sexually assaulted in Kangpokpi on May 4. One of them was “brutally gang-raped”, according to a police complaint.

On Friday, a bench of Chief Justice DY Chandrachud and Justices JB Pardiwala and Manoj Misra passed a slew of directions, including virtually examining the victims and witnesses. The court said that the directions have been issued “at the present stage, bearing in mind the overall environment in Manipur and the need for ensuring a fair process of criminal justice administration”.

‘Kushiara and Other Poems’: Less is more in Rimi Nath’s poetry of quiet lyricism and wistfulness

Kushiara and Other Poems is Rimi Nath’s debut collection of poetry. Named after the River Kushiara, flowing through Karimganj town and separating Assam from Bangladesh, the collection comprises 60 poems of rare musical quality. I first read it in 2021. I did not plan to write about it.

But after reading it the first time, I found myself going back to it again and again: a poem here, a poem there now and then. I was intrigued. What was it in this book that drew me into its world this way? I decided to find out by having one more careful reading.

The first thing that strikes me about this collection is its unpretentiousness. This impression is heightened by the book’s epigraph, a quotation from Rabindranath Tagore: “These paper boats of mine are meant to dance on the ripples of hours, and not reach any destination.”

As I read on, I realise that this is, in fact, the reigning spirit of Kushiara. There is no attempt to impress, no attempt to make any claim about anything. The very first poem will bear this out:

‘That is not our country,’ the father says
Pointing his finger across the River Kushiara
The child, in her anxiety and wonder, utters
‘Are the foreigners on the other side…

इंटरनेट डेस्क। मानसून सीजन चल रहा है और देश के कई राज्यों में झमाझम बारिश का दौर जारी है। मौसम विभाग की माने तो 12 राज्यों में आज तेज बारिश का रेड ऑरेंज अलर्ट जारी कर दिया गया है। बिहार झारखंड पश्चिम बंगाल उत्तर प्रदेश सहित एमपी, यूपी में भारी बारिश की चेतावनी जारी की गई है। वहीं मध्य प्रदेश और राजस्थान में एक बार फिर से बारिश की गतिविधियों पर रोक लग चुकी है।

वहीं मौसम विभाग ने राजधानी दिल्ली में बारिश का दौर जारी रहने का अनुमान जताया है। मौसम विभाग की माने तो उत्तर प्रदेश के कई जिलों में वज्रपात सहित आंधी और तूफान की चेतावनी भी जारी की गई है। वही 30 से अधिक जिलों में आज बारिश की संभावना जताई गई है।

On August 7, a bench of the Punjab and Haryana High Court passed a strong order criticising the Haryana government for unlawfully demolishing buildings in the districts of Nuh and Gurugram. The court called it an act of “ethnic cleansing” against Muslims.

The bench was hearing the matter suo motu, that is, of its own accord, without anyone specifically raising it before the court. It stayed demolitions in the two districts that were not as per the procedure prescribed in law. Such procedure requires, among other things, demolition orders and notices to the residents of the buildings sought to be removed by the government.

Three days later, however, the matter was suddenly transferred from this High Court bench to a different one. No reasons were given. This happened only a day before the next hearing.

This is not the first such instance of a matter being pulled away from judges critical of the government. Experts hold that this politicisation is a result of the discretionary, unchecked power that chief justices have over case allocation.

HS Prannoy on Friday assured himself of a first BWF Badminton World Championships medal after beating defending champion and world No 1 Viktor Axelsen 13-21 21-15 21-16 in the men’s singles quarter-final in Copenhagen, Denmark.

The men’s doubles world No 2 pair of Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty bowed out in the quarter-final stage, losing in straight games 18-21 19-21 to home favourites Kim Astrup and Anders Rasmussen.

Prannoy is now the only Indian left in the World Championships and he will become the fifth men’s singles player to win a Worlds medal after Prakash Padukone (bronze in 1983), B Sai Praneeth (bronze in 2019), Kidambi Srikanth (silver in 2021) and Lakshya Sen (bronze in 2021).

Prannoy came into the tie as the underdog not just because Axelsen was playing in front of his home crowd, but also because he was yet to drop a game in nine World Championships matches.

It was a difficult start for Prannoy with the world No 1 winning seven straight points to take a commanding 9-2 lead in the opening game. Axelsen looked fresh and Prannoy was unable to match up to his level, looking slightly sluggish and having his left shoulder heavily strapped.

Genetic variation could reduce the effectiveness of common heart medication among South Asians

People who have recently had a heart attack are often prescribed clopidogrel, a medication that decreases the risk of having another heart attack. While the drug is very effective at preventing subsequent heart attacks, it can only work if it’s activated by the body’s CYP2C19 enzyme. Certain genetic variations mean the body can’t activate clopidogrel, because it can’t make this enzyme.

An inability to activate clopidogrel is actually very common. An estimated one in three people of European ancestry has one of these genetic variants – and they are even more common in some ethnic groups.

For example, more than nine in every ten Indigenous people of the Pacific islands have one of these genetic variants. So, they probably have a greater risk of subsequent heart attack if prescribed clopidogrel. However, studies linking the genetic variants with real-world health data have not been done in many non-European populations.

Our new study has also shown that clopidogrel may not be effective for many British south Asians. This is significant, as south Asian people suffer from high rates of cardiovascular disease in the UK.

The Aeronautical Development Agency (ADA) under the Department of Defence Research and Development (DRDO) has commenced the online application process for the recruitment of Project Engineers. Eligible candidates can apply for the vacancies on the official website ada.gov.in till September 8 (upto 4.00 PM).

The recruitment drive aims to fill a total of 53 Project Engineer vacancies on Defined Tenure Basis in various disciplines of Engineering for Design, Development, Testing and Evaluation of various Systems/Sub‐systems for the Ministry of Defence (MoD).

Hockey: India climbs to world No 3 in men’s rankings after Asian Champions Trophy win

The Indian men’s hockey team, on Sunday, climbed to the third spot in the latest FIH world rankings following their title triumph at the Asian Champions Trophy in Chennai the day before.

With 2771.35 points in their kitty, India is now only behind Netherlands (3095.90 points) and Belgium (2917.87 points).

Ranked fourth before the start of the Asian Champions Trophy, India leapfrogged England who are now fourth with 2763.50 points.

As researchers in physical activity science and environmental physiology, we are assessing how adopting an active lifestyle can make us better equipped to cope with rising global temperatures.
