Ten persons died after consuming spurious liquor in Tamil Nadu’s Villupuram and Chengalpattu districts, ANI reported on Sunday.

Six persons who hailed from the Ekkiyarkuppam village in Villupuram died on Sunday. In Chengalpattu’s Madhuranthagam, two persons died on Friday and a couple died on Sunday.

Thirty-three others have been hospitalised and are stable, Inspector General of Police (North) N Kannan said.

The police official said that the authorities have not yet found a connection between the deaths in the two districts but are investigating the possibility of such a link.

Preliminary investigations showed that those who died may have consumed spurious liquor mixed with ethanol and methanol, Kannan said.

Nine of those who died have been identified as S Sankar, G Daranivel, P Suresh, D Ramamoorthy, Malarvizhi, Chinnathambi, Vasantha, Velliappan and V Chandra, The Times of India reported.

The police arrested an alleged bootlegger named V Amaran in connection with the deaths in Ekkiyarkuppam, and alleged bootleggers Ammavasai and Kariyathangal in connection with the deaths in Madhuranthagam.

Seven police officers have been suspended for dereliction of duty. They are Marakanam police inspector Arulvadivazhagan, sub-inspector Srinivasan, prohibition enforcement wing inspector Maria Sophie Manjula, sub-inspector Sivagurunathan, Melmaruvathur police inspector Prem Anand, Chithamur police inspector Mohanasundaram and Madhuranthagam prohibition enforcement wing sub-inspector Ramesh.

Like many children growing up in Uttar Pradesh in the 1980s, Waziruddin, 55, learned to sing Lab Pe Aati Hai Dua, a poem by the renowned Urdu poet Mohammad Iqbal, in school.

गहलोत ने इस दौरान कहा की हमारी सरकार को बचाने में वसुंधरा और कैलाश मेघवाल का सहयोग रहा है। उसका लोगों ने गलत मतलब निकाल लिया। बचाने का अर्थ यह थोड़े ही है कि वसुंधरा ने कह दिया कि मैं आपकी सरकार के साथ खड़ी हूं। इसके साथ ही उन्हांने सचिन पायलट का नाम लिए बिना कहा की मैं 156 सीट लेकर आया था। मैंने कभी घमंड नहीं किया कि मैं लेकर आ गया हूं।

The Congress on Sunday evening passed a unanimous resolution authorising its president Mallikarjun Kharge to decide who the next chief minister of Karnataka will be.

The Congress won 135 out of 244 seats in the Assembly elections that took place on May 10, registering its biggest victory in the state since 1989. The Bharatiya Janata Party won 66 seats and was defeated in the only state in south India where it held power.

On Saturday, the BJP’s Basavaraj Bommai resigned as the chief minister and took responsibility for the party’s defeat.

On Sunday, the All India Congress Committee’s General Secretary (Organisation) KC Venugopal and three central observers attended the meeting of the Congress Legislature Party. Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge said that the observers will convey the decision of the MLAs to the party high command, which will decide on the chief minister, PTI reported.

The two contenders for the top post are Leader of Opposition in the outgoing Assembly Siddaramaiah and Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee president DK Shivakumar.

Manini Kaushik, reached her first senior world cup stage career final, finishing sixth in the women’s 50m rifle 3 positions (3P) event as India ended their engagements at the International Shooting Sport Federation World Cup Rifle/Pistol in Baku, Azerbaijan.
