He brought up his sixth IPL ton – equal top with Chris Gayle – and first since 2019 smashing a six over deep midwicket off Bhuvneshwar Kumar after 62 balls.

In a season where most Sunrisers Hyderabad batters have struggled, Heinrich Klaasen carried his rich vein of form to score a spectacular 104 off 51 against Royal Challengers Bangalore on Thursday, to register his second T20 century.

After Sunrisers Hyderabad were reduced to 28/2 in 4.3 overs, he stitched a 76-run partnership with Aiden Markram and a 74-run stand with Harry Brook to help SRH bounce back to eventually post a competitive 186/5.

In an attacking display against spin, the South African hit eight fours and six sixes. Infact, even to reach the milestone on his 49th delivery, he lofted a straight six straight down the ground. Following his century, there was a fiery roar for the celebration. He was only dismissed by Harshal Patel in the penultimate over.

Klaasen’s ton was the second by a SRH batter this season.

Whether it was his 83* off 51 against Royal Challengers Bangalore during his time with Kolkata Knight Riders or his 31 off 15 against his former team to proper Chennai Super Kings to a title-winning total in 2021, Robin Uthappa knows a thing or two about hitting them big in the Indian Premier League.

With 4952 runs in 205 matches and after spending time with franchises like RCB, RR, KKR and CSK, he also understands the tricks of the trade and different ways teams work.

In an interaction facilitated by Jio Cinema on Wednesday, the now cricketer-turned-broadcaster spoke about various topics and trends in the IPL 2023.

Here are excerpts from the media interaction:

On why experienced players thrive in CSK

So basically what happens when you join the CSK franchise is that there is a lot of clarity, they do a lot of simple things very, very well. Once a player comes into the team, the first thing that not just MS (Dhoni), but everybody in the support staff does is they have they have a conversation with the player, define the role expressively to the player. And they make them understand what their role is going to be and they keep an open line of communication with…

Delhi Capitals survived a blazing 94 by Liam Livingstone for a consolation 15-run win on Wednesday to push Punjab Kings to the brink of IPL elimination on Wednesday.

South Africa’s Rilee Rossouw smashed an unbeaten 82 to guide Punjab to 213-2, a total that was threatened by Livingstone’s 48-ball blitz in the Himalayan hill town of Dharamsala.

Livingstone and Atharva Taide put on a 78-run stand. After Taide retired out on 55, the rest of the batting fell flat.

Delhi, who were already out of the play-off-race, kept the opposition to 198-8 despite Livingstone’s nine sixes and sloppy fielding, including two dropped catches.

“It was a bad performance in the field but we will take the win,” Delhi skipper David Warner said.

“It was frustrating,” Punjab captain Shikhar Dhawan said. “We didn’t bowl really well in the first six wickets, we should have taken some wickets the way it was swinging.”

Warner (46) and Prithvi Shaw (54) put on 94 runs for the opening wicket to lay the foundation for Delhi’s mammoth total.

The left-handed Warner set the pace with his attacking 31-ball knock as he hit former Delhi pace bowler Kagiso Rabada for two sixes.

Punjab left-arm quick and big buy Sam Curran denied Warner his fifty, but the left-handed Rossouw came in attacking…
