“How can a democratic state do this?” That’s what Sudesh Hooda, 50, demanded to know on Sunday as she was thwarted in her efforts to get to Jantar Mantar in the heart of Delhi. She had travelled more than 30 km away from the Najafgarh area to demonstrate her solidarity for the champion wrestlers who had been protesting at the site since April 23 to press for action against Wrestling Federation of India president Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh.

Singh, a Bharatiya Janata Party MP from Uttar Pradesh, has been accused of sexual misconduct with at least seven female wrestlers, including a minor. Among the protestors are international stars Sakshi Malik, Vinesh Phogat and Bajrang Punia, On May 7, they issued a 15-day ultimatum to the Central government to arrest Singh.

When their deadline expired, the wrestlers announced that they would hold a Mahila Samman Mahapanchayat or women’s assembly on Sunday, the day Prime Minister Narendra Modi was to inaugurate a new Parliament building – about 3 km from the site of the protest. The police have deployed thousands of officials and barricades have been put up in several areas of Delhi to stop wrestlers protesting at the Jantar Mantar from moving towards the new Parliament building which will be inaugurated later on Sunday morning, PTI reported.

The country’s top wrestlers have been holding a sit-in protest for more than a month to demand the arrest and ouster of Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh, the chief of Wrestling Federation of India. Singh, also a Bharatiya Janata Party MP, has been accused of sexually harassing seven women players, including a minor.

The wrestlers had announced that they will march to the new Parliament building on Sunday and hold a “mahila mahapanchayat”, or women’s conclave. However, the police have said that permission has been denied for the march and the conclave.

“We have completely covered the entire Jantar Mantar protest venue. It is being guarded by our security personnel,” a police officer told PTI. “CCTV cameras installed there are being constantly monitored. There are heavy barricades placed and to keep strict vigil on the activities and to ensure no one moves outside the venue…For each protester, we have deployed at least five police personnel,” a police officer said.

गुजरात टाइटंस ने दूसरे क्वालीफायर में पांच बार की चैम्पियन मुंबई को 62 रन से हराकर फाइनल में प्रवेश किया । मोहित ने 2 . 2 ओवर में 10 रन देकर पांच विकेट लिये।मोहित ने मैच के बाद कहा ,;; मैं खुशकिस्मत हूं कि पांच विकेट मिले । बाद में गेंद फिसल रही थी और सूर्य और तिलक के क्रीज पर रहते लग रहा था कि मैच निकल जायेगा ।

तिलक वर्मा ने 14 गेंद में 43 और सूर्यकुमार ने 38 गेंद में 61 रन बनाये लेकिन उनके आउट होने के बाद मुंबई की टीम 18.2 ओवर में 171 रन पर आउट हो गई।
चेन्नई सुपर किंग्स के साथ 2014 में परपल कैप ले चुके मोहित ने कमर की चोट से उबरने के बाद टाइटंस के साथ अपने कैरियर की दूसरी पारी का आगाज किया। वह 2021 और 2022 में आईपीएल अनुबंध नहीं ले सके थे ।

उन्होंने कल सूर्यकुमार का अहम विकेट लेकर मैच का पासा पलट दिया ।उन्होंने कहा ,;; मैने सोचा था कि उसके सामने ज्यादा प्रयोग नहीं करूंगा । थोड़े बहुत शॉट्स लगने की चिंता नहीं थी । यह रणनीति कामयाब रही ।

The 31-year-old only returned to the team in January after a six-month break to “focus on myself”, days after winning gold at the Commonwealth Games in August.

On her return, she led Australia to victory at the Twenty20 World Cup in South Africa and took Delhi Capitals to the final of the inaugural Women’s Premier League in India.

इस शतक के दौरान उन्होंने 10 छक्के भी लगाए। जिसके बाद उनके नाम एक बड़ा रिकॉर्ड भी हो गया। इसी के साथ वह आईपीएल प्लेऑफ मुकाबलों में एक पारी में सर्वाधिक छक्के लगाने वाले खिलाड़ी बन गए हैं। अब ये रिकॉर्ड गुजरात टाईटंस के खिलाड़ी शुभमन गिल के नाम हो गया है।

Gokulam Kerala captain Dangmei Grace remembered the conversations she heard when she had gone for the opening ceremony of the 2023 Indian Women’s League season.

Odisha FC, the Indian Super League club, had made a splash ahead of their debut appearance in the IWL, signing some big players including star India forward Bala Devi, to become serious contenders for the title. Former champions Sethu Madurai FC, Eastern Sporting Union and Kickstart FC were also gunning to end Gokulam’s reign in Indian women’s football.

“When I went for the opening ceremony, whoever was there, they weren’t talking about Gokulam at all. Nobody was praising Gokulam,” Grace told Scroll.

“I don’t want people praising the team but everyone was talking about the chances of other clubs. But I thought to myself that we’ll see and just prove it. And then I just came back and I told my teammates that we need to prove that we are the better team,” she added.

The Indian junior men’s hockey team came from behind to clinch a 3-1 win against Japan in their second Pool A game at the Men’s Junior Asia Cup 2023 in Salalah, Oman on Thursday. Araijeet Singh Hundal (36’), Sharda Nand Tiwari (39’) and Uttam Singh (56’) scored one goal each for the Indian Junior Men’s Hockey Team while Kumpei Yasuda (19’) found the back of the net for Japan. This was India’s second win in as many games at the Men’s Junior Asia Cup 2023 so far.

The Indian junior men’s hockey team were on the attack from the get-go and were keen on landing the first blow against Japan. However, Japan held on in the early exchanges, keeping the Indian attackers at bay. Nonetheless, soon after the midway mark, the Indian Colts started to create more chances with Sudeep Chirmako making the opposition goalie work. Japan almost opened the scoring late in the quarter at the other end, but India stood firm, with the teams going into the break locked at 0-0.

Novak Djokovic could face world number one Carlos Alcaraz in the semi-finals of the French Open after both players were placed in the same half of the draw on Thursday.

Djokovic is chasing a record 23rd men’s Grand Slam title in the absence of the injured Rafael Nadal, who will miss the tournament at Roland Garros for the first time since his 2005 title-winning debut.

The third-seeded Djokovic, Roland Garros champion in 2016 and 2021, meets 114th-ranked Aleksandar Kovacevic of the US in the first round in Paris – the first French Open since 1998 without Nadal or the now retired Roger Federer.

The 24-year-old Kovacevic is making his Grand Slam main draw debut.

Djokovic, who turned 36 on Monday, has been bothered by a recurrence of a right elbow injury which has disrupted his clay-court season.

He failed to go beyond the last eight at any of the three events he played on clay this spring, losing his number one spot to Alcaraz.

Djokovic has also fallen behind Daniil Medvedev in the rankings after the Russian succeeded him as Italian Open champion last weekend.

Madhwal then returned figures of 5-5 in 3.3 overs to dismiss Lucknow for 101 as Mumbai booked a meeting with holders Gujarat Titans in the next play-off encounter on Friday.

The winners of that clash will meet Chennai Super Kings in the final in Ahmedabad on Sunday.

Lucknow’s innings imploded as they collapsed from 69-2 to be bowled out in 16.3 overs, losing three key wickets to run outs.

Indian junior men’s hockey team kicked off their campaign at the Men’s Junior Asia Cup 2023 in Salalah, Oman with a solid 18-0 win over Chinese Taipei in their first Pool A match on Wednesday.

Araijeet Singh Hundal (19’, 19’, 30’, 59) starred in the match for India, scoring four goals, while Amandeep (37’, 38’, 41’) netted a hat-trick. Captain Uttam Singh (10’, 59’), Boby Singh Dhami (11’, 46’) and Chandura boby Poovanna (39’, 54’) scored a brace while Aditya Arjun Lalage (37’), Sharda Nand Tiwari (11’), Angad Bir Singh (37’), Amir Ali (51’), and Rawat Yogember (60’) also scored a goal each.

India pressed early on in the match, earning themselves a crucial penalty corner. But Sharda Nand Tiwari’s flick was defended by Chinese Taipei. Captain Uttam Singh (10’) broke the opposition’s resistance and scored the first goal for India, and a few seconds later, Boby Singh Dhami (11’) doubled India’s lead with a powerful strike. Sharda Nand Tiwari (11’) added in the third goal for India from a penalty corner as India finished the first quarter with a 3-0 lead.

Wrestlers’ protest: Vinesh Phogat – ‘Though we have to represent India, this is a bigger battle’

Vinesh Phogat on Tuesday said in an opinion piece in the Indian Express that their now one-month long protest will continue until Wrestling Federation of India chief Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh is arrested.

Singh is accused of sexually harassing several female players, including an underage girl. The country’s top wrestlers have been staging a sit-in protest at Jantar Mantar since April 23, demanding the arrest of Singh.

Two first information reports have been registered against Singh after the Supreme Court intervened but he is yet to be arrested.

In the article with her byline, in addition to discussing their troubles within the federation, the wrestler also discussed how their training has been hampered in preparation for the Asian Games 2023.

“The Asian Games is around the corner… though we have to represent India and win medals, this is a bigger battle… What’s the point of the medals around your neck if you can’t fight for justice?,” wrote the Asian Games gold medalist.

Phogat, who is also a two-time Commonwealth Games gold-medallist, the 2021 Asian Champ and a 2021 World Championships bronze-medallist has been protesting at Jantar Mantar for a month now. इंटरनेट डेस्क। दिल्ली में जतंर मंतर पर धरने पर बैठी महिला पहलवानों का मामला अब जोर पकड़ता जा रहा है। पिछले लगभग एक महीने से ये लोग धरने पर है, लेकिन पीएम मोदी की तरफ से एक बार भी इन लोगों के बारे में नहीं कोई बयान आया है और ना हीं इनके बारे में कोई बात हुई है।

अप्रैल में पहलवान खुलकर डब्लूयएफआई के अध्यक्ष रहे बृजभूषण के विरोध में आ गए है और यौन शोषण का आरोप लगाया है। दिल्ली पुलिस ने सुप्रीम कोर्ट के दखल पर बृजभूषण के खिलाफ पॉक्सो एक्ट और अन्य संबंधित धाराओं में केस दर्ज कर रखा है, वहीं अब पहलवान इंडिया गेट तक कैंडल मार्च निकालेंगे। इसी के साथ, जिस दिन नई संसद का उद्घाटन होगा, पहलवान उसी दिन संसद के बाहर महिला महापंचायत आयोजित करेंग।

जानकारी के अनुसार इस बारे में महम में आयोजित खाप पंचायत में ये फैसला लिया गया है। पहलवान डब्ल्यूएफआई अध्यक्ष रहे बृजभूषण शरण सिंह को गिरफ्तार करने की मांग कर रहे हैं। बृजभूषण शरण सिंह पर एक नाबालिग समेत सात महिला पहलवानों ने यौन उत्पीड़न का आरोप लगाया है।

Virat Kohli surpassed his former Royal Challengers Bangalore teammate Chris Gayle’s record for most centuries in the Indian Premier League even as his side’s playoff hopes came to a close on Sunday in Bengaluru.

The former RCB captain finished unbeaten on 101* off 61 balls. RCB finished with 197/5 in 20 overs. But a sensational innings by Shubman Gill, also a century and also back-to-back to power Gujarat Titans home.

Kohli followed up his century in Hyderabad with another magnificent innings against Gujarat Titans.

While that knock came in a run-chase, Kohli’s seventh century was a stunning innings in a must-win match for RCB. While he was off to a flying start, he had to check himself as wickets fell around him. He then exploded at the back-end once again. His century came at the start of the final over of the innings.

Australia’s Cameron Green hit his first-ever T20 century to lead the Mumbai Indians to a crushing eight-wicket win over Sunrisers Hyderabad and keep their IPL play-off hopes alive on Sunday.

Green made an unbeaten 100 off 47 balls and put on a key stand of 128 with skipper Rohit Sharma (56) as Mumbai achieved their victory target of 201 with two overs to spare at the Wankhede Stadium, their home ground.

Mumbai kept up their brilliant chasing record at the venue this season, with a third 200-plus run-chase.

Mumbai, five-time winners of the Indian Premier League, now await the result of the second match of the day between Royal Challengers Bangalore and holders Gujarat Titans to see if they can clinch the last remaining play-off spot.

Devdutt Padikkal, Shimron Hetmyer and Yashasvi Jaiswal starred with the bat as Rajasthan Royals knocked Punjab Kings out of IPL 2023 on Friday.

The nail-biting four-wicket win in Dharamsala gave Rajasthan a glimmer of hope of qualifying for the knockout phase of the competition although their fate depends on other matches this weekend.

Sam Curran, who cost Punjab a hefty $2.23 million, fell one run short of what would have been only his second 50 of the tournament as Punjab put on 187-5 with Navdeep Saini taking 3-40 for Rajasthan. The innings started with yet another first-over wicket for Trent Boult and PBKS lost four wickets in the first seven overs.

But a stellar finish led by Curran and Shahrukh Khan saw PBKS plunder 46 runs from the last two balls, including a 28-run 19th over by Yuzvendra Chahal.

Jyothi Surekha Vennam, Ojas Pravin Deotale made it to the final of the compound mixed team event with a fine shootoff win against Italy at the Shanghai 2023 Hyundai Archery World Cup stage 2 on Friday.

It is the second final in two attempts on the World Cup circuit this year for Vennam and Deotale. The duo had struck gold at the Antalya stage as well last month.

The Indians were trailing against Italian duo of Elisa Roner and Elia Fregnan before the final end, by two points. But Vennam and Deotale both shot two 10s while the Italians dropped two 9s to take the match to the shootoff at 157-157. The shootoff saw both score 19 but the Indians had the closer arrow to the center.

“It was a very good match,” said Deotale according to World Archery. “There were some tense moments, but we told ourselves not to give up until the end.”

The Indians had defeated Bangladesh (158-151) and then Turkey (157-156) to reach the last four.

Here’s a look at India’s path to the final:

Vennam and Deotale will take on top seeds Oh Yoohyun and Kim Jongho of Korea in the final on Saturday.

Also in action on Saturday will be Prathamesh Jawkar and Avneet Kaur in the compound individual semifinals.
