The Institute of Banking Personnel Selection (IBPS) has released the scorecard of the Probationary Officers/ Management Trainees (CRP PO/MT-XIII) Preliminary Exam 2023. Eligible candidates can download their scorecard from the official website ibps.in.

The Preliminary exam was conducted on September 29 and 30, 2023. The Main exam will be conducted on November 5, 2023. The recruitment drive aims to fill up a total of 3049 vacancies.

“Call letter of the Preliminary exam was not collected at the time of examination. Shortlisted candidates will be required to bring the duly authenticated/ stamped copy of ID proof) along with the Main call letter and other requisite documents as per information provided in the “Information Handout” and call letter,” reads the notification.

“What is ludicrous, what is strange, what is impossible – this is about them. This is about where imagination can take you, and if you cannot go there, this book isn’t for you.” So said Sukumar Ray, as an introduction to his book of nonsensical poetry Abol Tabol.

Perhaps it was this very ability to take nonsensical verse and characters seriously, that led the Nabin Palli Durga Puja Committee in Hatibagan (North Kolkata) to re-create scenes, rhymes, and nonsense verse from the pages of Abol Tabol on the streets of Hatibagan.

As a text Ray’s Abol Tabol celebrates a hundred years, an apt time perhaps to re-imagine this flight of fantasy, and let it spill over as a breathing piece of art onto the streets of Kolkata. It wouldn’t be presumptuous to say that what artist Anirban Das has done here with the text (many of which are also taken from Ray’s unpublished poems) and the art is part re-imagining and part giving the old text a new life by putting it out there on the streets for people to interact with it, while they go about their daily business.

Killers of the Flower Moon is “a story of complicity, silent complicity in certain cases, sin by omission”, Martin Scorsese said about his new movie at a recent global press conference. The revered 80-­year-old director was replying to questions about his filmmaking approach, his attempt to accurately reflect Native American culture and his collaboration with the actors in the production.

The film has been adapted from American writer David Grann’s Killers of the Flower Moon: The Osage Murders and the Birth of the FBI. The movie will be released in Indian theatres on October 27. It will be streamed later on Apple TV+.

Grann’s celebrated non-fiction book revisits a series of murders in Oklahoma in the 1920s among the Osage, a prominent Native American tribe. A group of white settlers plotted to rob the Osage of the wealth they were earning from the recent discovery of oil in the region. The conspiracy included marrying Osage women and killing them.

Scorsese’s adaptation stars Lily Gladstone as Osage heiress Mollie Burkhart, Leonardo DiCaprio as her husband Ernest Burkhart, Robert De Niro as key conspirator William Hale, and Jesse Plemons as Federal Bureau of Investigation agent Tom White. It was written along with Eric Roth.

Same-sex couples face discrimination because they are not legally permitted to marry – but the legislature, not the judiciary, can provide them relief. This was the broad theme of the judgment delivered by the Supreme Court five-judge constitution bench on Tuesday.

The bench – comprising Chief Justice DY Chandrachud and Justices SK Kaul, S Ravindra Bhat, Hima Kohli and PS Narasimha – had heard a batch of petitions in April and May demanding marriage equality for the queer community.

The judgement includes four opinions. All of them pay lip service to the idea of queer rights but offer little in terms of the actually achieving those rights. The only noteworthy change introduced in the order is its affirmation that transgender people can marry under India’s existing marriage laws.

Of the four opinions, the one by Bhat, on behalf of himself and Kohli, is the majority opinion since it is also fully endorsed by Narasimha’s opinion. As per judicial custom, the directions contained in the majority opinion are what the state is obliged to follow.

The Mauritius Supreme Court earlier this month declared unconstitutional a law that criminalises consensual same-sex acts between adult men. The decision boosts the trend in the Southern African Development Community region towards decriminalisation. Now, a slight majority – nine out of 16 member states – do not prohibit gay and lesbian sexual relations.

I have researched and taught human rights law in Africa, including the rights of sexual minorities, for over three decades, and closely follow the work of the African Commission on Human and Peoples’ Rights.

The African Commission, as the continent’s human rights custodian, should lend its unequivocal support to the decriminalisation trend. This is particularly significant as attempts are made to further criminalise and stigmatise sexual minorities in parts of Africa.

The commission has not yet expressed its view on the decision. Its 77th ordinary session, starting on October 20 in Arusha, Tanzania, is an opportunity to do so. It should build on its 2014 guidance to African states on eradicating violence based on sexual orientation and gender identity.

Members of the LGBTQIA community on Tuesday expressed their disappointment in the Supreme Court judgement that refused to legalise same-sex marriages and left it to Parliament to formulate a law on the matter.

A five-judge Constitution bench headed by Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud delivered its verdict on Tuesday in response to a batch of pleas seeking legal recognition for same-sex marriages. The bench, which also included Justices Sanjay Kishan Kaul, S Ravindra Bhat, Hima Kohli and PS Narasimha, delivered four separate judgements.

The court said that it cannot create a legal framework for queer couples because that is the job of Parliament. The bench also said that there is no fundamental right to marriage. Solicitor General Tushar Mehta said that the Centre will form a committee to decide the rights and entitlements of persons in queer unions.

After the judgement was delivered, advocate Rohin Bhatt, one of the lawyers representing the petitioners in the case, said that the verdict has relegated the community to an “unsympathetic” legislature.

The Delhi High Court on Tuesday allowed Aam Aadmi Party MP Raghav Chadha’s plea to stay his eviction from a government-allotted bungalow, reported Bar and Bench.

Chadha had moved the High Court after the additional district judge of Patiala House court on October 5 dismissed an interim order of April 18 that directed the Rajya Sabha Secretariat to halt his eviction.

Additional District Judge Sudhanshu Kaushik had said that Chadha had no right to stay in the bungalow as it was only a privilege given to him as an MP.

In September 2022, Chadha was allotted a type-VII accommodation bungalow in Delhi. The Opposition party’s MP was earlier allotted a type VI bungalow. In March, the Rajya Sabha Secretariat told him that the allotment had been cancelled as the type-VII bungalow was higher than his entitlement, reported Bar and Bench. He was then allotted another flat.

Following this, Chadha sought direction against the decision to cancel his type-VII bungalow allotment. The Patiala House Court granted him interim relief on April 18.

The Staff Selection Commission (SSC) has released the master question paper and final answer key for the Tier 1 Combined Higher Secondary (10+2) Level Examination or CHSL 2023 today, October 17. Candidates who appeared for the exam can download the answer key from the official website ssc.nic.in.

The Tier-I of Combined Higher Secondary (10+2) Level Examination 2023 was conducted by the Commission from August 2 to 17 at different centres all over the country. The provisional answer key was released on August 19 and objections were invited till August 22. The CHSLE 2023 results were announced on October 2. A total of 19556 candidates have qualified for the Tier 2 exam.

“The candidates may take a print out of their respective Final Answer Keys along with respective Question Paper(s) by using the link given below. This facility will be available for the candidates for a period from 17.10.2023 (6:00 PM) to 31.10.2023(6:00 PM),” reads the official notification.
