On Sunday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate India’s new parliament building. The new structure features space for a controversial, expanded Lok Sabha based on India’s latest population figures.

For more than half a century now, the number of members of the Lok Sabha has been frozen, given fears that the different growth rates of India’s states would upset the country’s federal balance. However, the new building has been seen as an indicator that the Bharatiya Janata Party will end the freeze if it were to come back to power in the Centre in 2024.

The result would be a significant expansion in political power for the Hindi belt, given its high birth rates and a fall for South India, which has better implemented family planning measures.

Expansion after 2026?

The new Lok Sabha chamber designed to accommodate 888 Lok Sabha members instead of the House’s current capacity of 552.

At present, India has 543 Lok Sabha constituencies.

In 1976, the Constitution was amended to freeze the Lok Sabha’s expansion until 2001. This was done to allow for population control initiatives to take effect. In 2001, the freeze was extended until 2026. इंटरनेट डेस्क। केंद्रीय सड़क परिवहन और राजमार्ग मंत्री नितिन गडकरी राजस्थान के हनुमानगढ़ जिले के पक्का सारणा गांव के दौरे पर रहे। यहां उन्होंने कहा कि अगले साल के आखिर तक राजस्थान की सड़कें अमेरिका जैसी बना दी जाएंगी। आपको बता दें की गडकरी पक्का सारणा गांव में एक उद्घाटन एवं शिलान्याय कार्यक्रम को संबोधित कर रहे थे।

अपने भाषण के दौरान नितिन गडकरी ने कहा, “हम राजस्थान के रास्ते 2024 समाप्त होने से पहले अमेरिका की तरह बनाकर देंगे। यह वचन मैं आपको देता हूं। उन्होंने कहा कि रास्तों के कारण राजस्थान भी एक सुखी, समृद्ध एवं संपन्न प्रदेश बनेगा।

जानकारी के लिए बता दें की नितिन गडकरी ने राजस्थान में 2050 करोड़ रुपये की लागत की छह राष्ट्रीय राजमार्ग परियोजनाओं और सेतुबंधन परियोजना के अंतर्गत सात रेलवे ओवरब्रिज का लोकार्पण एवं शिलान्यास किया। इस दौरान ही उन्होंने ये अमेरिका जैसी सड़के बनाने का भी वचन दिया।

उन्होंने यह कहा है कि कांग्रेस कभी भी असहमति जताने वाले नेताओं को पार्टी से निष्कासित नहीं करती है, लेकिन जिन्होंने पार्टी छोड़ी उनका हश्र सभी को पता है। आपको बता दें की काफी समय से चर्चा है की पायलट पार्टी छोड़ सकते है या फिर नई पार्टी बना सकते है या फिर भाजपा में जा सकते है। ऐसे में माना जा रहा है कि रंधावा ने पायलट को लेकर यह बयान दिया है।

जानकारी के लिए आपको बता दें की पायलट ने अपनी 125 किलोमीटर की अजमेर-जयपुर पदयात्रा के समापन के बाद यह चेतावनी दी थी कि अगर भ्रष्टाचार के मुद्दे पर उनकी मांगे नहीं मानी गई तो फिर वह पूरे प्रदेश में आंदोलन की शुरुआत करेंगे। रंधावा ने कहा, मैं आज भी यह कहता हूं कि यह पायलट व्यक्तिगत यात्रा थी। कांग्रेस का इससे कोई लेना-देना नहीं है। यात्रा निकालनी चाहिए थी लेकिन कर्नाटक वोटिंग से पहले यह यात्रा करना, मेरे ख्याल से यह अच्छी बात नहीं थी।

The last word on the saga of the Delhi government vs the Centre is yet to be spoken. But the issuing of ordinances, past and present, smacks of blatant misuse by an autocratic Central government that skirts debate and is intolerant of alternative viewpoints.

On May 19, the Union government promulgated an ordinance nullifying the Supreme Court’s May 11 verdict that handed over authority over civil servants in the national capital to the Delhi government. The Supreme Court judgement had also held that the lieutenant governor was to act on the “aid and advice” of the council of ministers in the Delhi government.

The National Capital Civil Service Authority, created by the ordinance, will be headed by the Delhi chief minister to handle the service conditions, transfer and posting of bureaucrats.

Perhaps, sensing that The Government of National Capital Territory of Delhi (Amendment) Ordinance, 2023, may attract criticism, the Central government has filed a petition in the Supreme Court seeking a review of the ruling.

Veteran journalist Pradip Phanjoubam told Scroll that Chief Minister N Biren Singh, since his return to power in March last year after the state assembly elections with a majority government, has pushed rash policies, without consultation.

“He got arrogant,” said Phanjoubam, editor of the Imphal Review of Arts and Politics, told Scroll over the phone from Imphal. “He started pushing things around, not listening to anybody else because he knew his position was safe.”

How Singh tackled issues such as the drive against poppy cultivation and the proposed National Register of Citizens may have given members of the Kuki community the impression that they were being singled out.

Opposition leaders on Saturday accused the Modi government of “bulldozing the Constitutional federal framework” after it brought an ordinance that gives the Centre-appointed lieutenant governor the final say on the postings and transfers of all bureaucrats serving the Delhi government.

The ordinance, promulgated by President Droupadi Murmu, effectively negates the May 11 Supreme Court verdict stating that the Arvind Kejriwal-led Aam Aadmi Party has legislative power over bureaucrats excluding the departments of public order, police and land.

At a press conference, Kejriwal said that the ordinance was unconstitutional and a “direct challenge” to the Supreme Court.

“We will approach the Supreme Court against it,” he added. “The Centre introduced the ordinance on services matter just hours after the apex court has shut for vacation…I will also go to people, door to door, in Delhi and AAP will also take to the streets against the ordinance because it snatches powers of Delhi people.”
